SA "51"

First Registered Owner: C.J.A. Jenkins

Address: Rundle St, Adelaide

March 1907 Vehicle: Minerva 16

Rights Sold: No. Our old records indicate a BSA Motorcycle was registered with historic plate SA “51” in approx the 1950s and that this classic bike still has the plate registered to it, possibly with Restricted Rights.

Current Owner: per our old records some ownership history is known

As we’ve outlined in the History section of our site three classes for vehicles existed in the early days of registration plates and each received duplicates of low historic numbers. The BSA motorcycle registered in SA”51” would be the last vehicle to receive the plate “51” and as it has been in continuous ownership and registration it retains this plate to this day.

Today: see above....we’d love a pic of the bike for our SA Historic Plate Register Project

SA "52"

First Registered Owner: Robert Thomas

Address: Strathalbyn

March 1907 Vehicle: De Dion 6

Rights Sold: Yes. Rights were sold subsequent to 1985’s The Great Plate Auction. The plate was held in the private ownership of a North Adelaide resident until 3.9.07 when it was sold at auction interstate for $73 000 plus buyers premium & transfer fees.

Current Owner: current ownership history known & updated.

Currently registered on a Blue Ford AU Falcon XR6 sedan.

SA "53"

First Registered Owner: Wanborough Fisher

Address: Unley Park

March 1907 Vehicle: De Dion 8

Rights Sold: Yes. Rights were sold at 1985’s The Great Plate Auction for $1200. The plate was held in the same private ownership post the ’85 Auction until November 2008 when it was advertised for sale privately along with historic plate SA”79”, for $75 000 per historic plate. This owner is a long term plate collection and entrusted us at historicplates.com.au to divest plates on his behalf at then 2011 The Great Plate Auction where we broke a record with one of his Historic Plates.

This rare pair, along with SA “52” (see above) are the only three of the rare two digit plates that have been offered publicly in the past ten years, prior the 2011 The Great Plate Auction where www.historicplates.com.au offered the four 2-digit plates SA "64", SA "65" , SA "82" and SA "87". All four we sold for record prices.

After being advertised SA "53” and SA “79” subsequently sold  to one private buyer known to us at www.historicplates.com.au, and astutely bought we say.

Current Owner: current ownership history is known to us at historicplates.com.au. Furthermore, a client of ours has made us aware that the 2-digit plates SA "53" and SA "79" are being "claimed" on a "sold" listing by another party- but as the client has rightly advised they were a private sale via the above newspaper ad and were not sold by a "dealer".

Historicplates.com.au are the only brokers & auctioneers to have brokered 2-digit SA Plates in the past few years, being the four plates auctioned at our 2011 The Great Plate Auction event.

SA "54"

First Registered Owner: Dr. W.A. Giles

The plate has been in one ownership since 1985 and the owner has advised us that the plate recently has been registered to an original 30,000 mile, rare colour and all orginal survivor MG TF that when near new, was in the ownership of this very same family. A really great, historic car and plate combination. Bravo.

See the link following:

The plate subsequently changed hands in the mid ‘90’s and is now in long term ownership and is held by a client of ours at historicplates.com.au. It is currently registered on a Holden Utility.

SA "70"

First Registered Owner:  E. Dalley

Address: Kensington Park

March 1907 Vehicle: Oldsmobile 5

Only 65 of these were built in RHD. A BEA delivered Adelaide car when new, this car was sold new to the Barr Smith family, the original registrants of historic plate SA “17”. This car did not wear SA "17" when first registered in 1971 due to the 1966 change in plate transferral rules as it was already on a car and could not be re-assigned.
